CHP for a strong and competitive EU chemicals industryPublished on 19-02-2009

The European chemical sector must invest in eco-innovation, use natural resources responsibly and improve its energy efficiency to increase its competitiveness and become more sustainable, the EU High Level Group on Competitiveness of the European Chemicals Industry has recommended. To remain competitive, the chemicals sector should push for liberalisation of the European energy market  and increase on-site CHP generation to secure reliable access to energy sources, according to the group. The group also advocates increased integration along the value chain. Centralised power and steam production “usually allows… a lower carbon footprint” the authors say.
