The International Energy Agency (IEA) has released a new report to assist policy makers who would like to implement policies and programmes to advance clean, efficient CHP. This report “Cogeneration and District Heating – Sustainable energy technologies for today … and tomorrow”, released at the COGEN Europe meeting in Brussels on 21 April 2009, provides “best practice” policy approaches used by different countries to expand CHP and district energy use. The report follows the 2008 IEA CHP study as part of the IEA International CHP Collaborative effort. The new report concludes that CHP and district energy do not need significant financial incentives to compete in the market place. Rather, they require focused, consistent government attention to address a variety of barriers that can prevent the realisation of their full potential. The report includes a variety of “best practice” policy approaches for energy, environmental, finance and local officials that have been used successfully to expand the use of CHP and district energy. As such, this report can help stakeholders in adapting approaches to increase the share of CHP in electricity generation. Please find here the report, the annexes and the IEA press release.
