Description:

Phase I of the E TRACK project had investigated the feasibility of a harmonised standard for tracking of electricity generation attributes in Europe. Such tracking was required by electricity disclosure (also called labelling) and could also be used for support schemes and for accounting for the targets of Member States for electricity from renewable energy sources (RES-E). Phase II of the project continued the process of harmonisation of tracking systems across Europe, including the new Guarantees of Origin for high-efficient cogeneration (CHP-E). It also focused on the specific situation of new Member States in the implementation of tracking systems and supported consumers and their organisations to define their requirements on tracking systems and the related policies.

The objective of the E-TRACK standard, which had been developed in Phase I of the project, was to establish a comprehensive, reliable approach to tracking across Europe, which minimises the risk of double counting at reasonable cost. Key elements of the standard have been taken up by a number of countries already.
