Green Public Procurement: Commission takes COGEN Europe comments on board

Following COGEN Europe’s contribution in August 2009 to the Commission’s consultation on criteria for CHP plants under Green Public Procurement rules, DG Environment has decided to modify its proposal.

The attached PDF document shows which points have either been modified or removed following our intervention.

The cogeneration sector reinforced the huge diversity and confidence of the sector in its Annual Recognition Awards in Brussels on 1 June where both one of the giant and one of the miniature triumphs of the sector were celebrated. COGEN Europe gathered the leaders of the industry in Brussels on the eve of its Annual Conference to recognise those who have contributed most to cogeneration. Please find the press release here.

The joint Annual Conference of COGEN Europe and Euroheat&Power took place on Wednesday 2 June in Brussels. Cogeneration and district heating experts met up and discussed common challenges and exchanged best practice experience with the audience. CODE Stakeholders Workshop on the review of the Cogeneration Directive

Within the CODE project, a workshop was organised on 3 June on the possible review of the Cogeneration Directive. Cogeneration experts discussed how the sector regards the current Cogeneration Directive and discussed – in the light of the potential review – experiences, recommendations and how to make the Directive more efficient. COGEN Europe and Euroheat&Power Press Release – Europe needs a strategy for heat

Speaking at their Joint Annual Conference 2010 held in Brussels on June 2, COGEN Europe and Euroheat&Power called for ‘a European strategy for heat’, underlining that EU institutions, national governments and industry should work to develop such a strategy to ensure that the aim of a low-carbon energy supply by 2050 can be achieved. COGEN Europe press release – Cogeneration and district heating can benefit from the unspent EU economic recovery funds

Energy commissioner Günther Oettinger, speaking at this week’s first anniversary of the Covenant of Mayors, has proposed that unspent EU economic recovery funds currently amounting to €115m should be directed to regional and local sustainable energy efficiency and renewables projects. This would mean that funds will become available for small-scale cogeneration and district heating projects in the urban environment. COGEN Europe welcomes this initiative and encourages the Commission to further extend the finance directed at energy efficiency and cogeneration. Please find the press release here.

Second round of CODE Regional workshops in April and May

COGEN Europe is the coordinator of the CODE project. This project monitors the progress of the implementation Cogeneration Directive and reporting requirements by the 27 EU Member States. More information can be found on www.code-project.eu. In April and May the CODE project team organises a round of Regional Workshops in Sofia, Milan and Budapest to provide stakeholders with an update of the project. The focus will be on the different national support schemes and on Internal Rate of Return (IRR) for different CHP installations for all the Member States.
