    Policymakers must address role of heat in fuelling EU economy

    Around half of the final energy consumed in the EU is used in industrial processes, and to heat and cool commercial buildings and households. Yet despite the huge economic significance of this demand, the European Commission is yet to produce a comprehensive strategy for assessing how heat-related policies could help the EU to meet its climate and energy objectives while ensuring growth and competitiveness. COGEN Europe has joined forces with Euroheat & Power to hold a high-level policy event focusing on the crucial issue of delivering competitive and sustainable heat to industry and the residential sector.

    IPCC confirms role of CHP in long-term CO₂ reduction

    COGEN Europe welcomes the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change's (IPCC) recognition (with strong agreement) of the key role played by combined heat and power (CHP) in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from energy supply. Marking the contradiction between this finding and the direction of some EU member states' policy on CHP, COGEN Europe warns that the current situation risks undermining even existing gains.
