About COGEN Europe
COGEN Europe is the European association representing the cogeneration sector. We have over 60 members: 13 national associations and 50 organisations spanning the entire value chain from technology manufacturers and users to consultancies and national cogeneration associations.
Our aim is to promote the benefits and use of cogeneration in the EU and wider Europe. Cogeneration generates today already 11% of all electricity and 15% of all heat in the EU. This delivers around 15% of EU’s energy efficiency and 20% of EU’s climate 2020 objectives, saving Europe around 200 million tonnes of CO2 per year. We believe that there is much more potential for cogeneration. By 2030, cogeneration could generate 20% of the EU’s electricity and 25% of the EU’s heat. That would reduce CO2 emissions by 350 million tonnes every year. It would also mean meeting the EU's energy efficiency target for 23% and the EU climate objectives for 25%.
