In view of the ongoing discussion on the European Commission’s proposal for a Hydrogen and Decarbonised Gas Package, COGEN Europe supports an ambitious approach to the efficient and cost-effective decarbonization of the gas sector by prioritizing quick uptake of low carbon, renewable and decarbonised gases, and their efficient use with high-efficient cogeneration.
COGEN Europe supports the objectives of REPowerEU – rapidly phasing out Europe’s dependency on energy imports and reinforcing its long-term energy and climate goals in line with the EU Green Deal. To achieve this, Europe must rapidly diversify energy sources, increase energy efficiency and protect consumers.
The cogeneration sector is committed to the creation of a resilient, decentralised and carbon neutral European energy system by 2050 with cogeneration as its backbone. This approach will accelerate emission reductions by 2030, while empowering European citizens and industry to generate their own efficient, reliable and affordable clean heat and power locally.
In response to the Action Plan on the Digitalisation of the Energy Sector roadmap, COGEN Europe supports the promotion of digitalisation in the energy system as an integral part of energy system integration, consumer empowerment, lower energy costs on the path to net zero emissions by 2050.
