COGEN Europe, the European association for the promotion of cogeneration, is pleased to announce today that Germany-based 2G Energy AG has become its latest member.
COGEN Europe Managing Director Hans Korteweg said: “We are delighted to welcome 2G Energy AG as a new member. We will join forces to promote the benefits of cogeneration towards EU policymakers and stakeholders. Our goal is to ensure the right policy framework is put in place and implemented for cogeneration to grow and contribute to a successful and cost-effective energy transition.”
Mr Korteweg added: “The cogeneration sector is committed to creating a resilient, decentralised, carbon-neutral European energy system by 2050 with cogeneration as its backbone. In an increasingly integrated energy system with important shares of renewable energy, cogeneration is consumer-led and uniquely placed to deliver system efficiency, flexibility across energy vectors, reliability and cost reductions.” He continues: “Europe now needs predictable and stable frameworks to drive investment and ensure a level-playing between the different decarbonising solutions, including cogeneration.”
2G Energy AG Chief Executive Officer Christian Grotholt, said: “It is an honour for us to join COGEN Europe with our team. Together with the other members of this valued association, we want to strengthen the political and social position of cogeneration in the international context of the European Union. Since an increasing number of large centralised and inefficient power plants will be shut down in order to limit greenhouse gas emissions, there has to be another backbone technology to compensate for the volatile production of electricity by wind turbines and photovoltaic panels. Cogeneration can fulfil this backbone function in a safe, efficient and environmentally friendly manner to supply people and businesses with the energy they need. Fuelled by natural and renewable gas, cogeneration plants are a long-lasting and sustainable solution for today and the next generations.”
2G Energy AG, founded in 1995, is an internationally leading manufacturer of combined heat and power plants (CHP) for the decentralised provision of heat and power using gas engines fuelled by natural gas, biomethane, biogas, sewage gas, landfill gas or hydrogen. The company’s product range includes plants with an electrical output between 20 kW to 2,000 kW. To date, 2G has successfully installed several thousand CHP plants in 50 countries.

COGEN Europe is the cross-sectoral voice of the cogeneration industry. It has over 60 members: 13 national associations and 50 organisations spanning the entire value chain from technology manufacturers and users to consultancies. COGEN Europe’s mission is to work with EU institutions and stakeholders to shape better policies and eliminate administrative, regulatory and market barriers to the wider use of cogeneration in Europe.
