Panel Session 2: Technology and Innovation Trends in Cogeneration

  13:15 - 14:45 PM The Hotel

Cogeneration technologies are well-recognised across industry and district heating, as an energy efficient, reliable and cost-effective solution for heat and power supply.  As the energy system moves towards higher shares of renewable energy, increased energy efficiency and electrification, the role of cogeneration is also evolving. The European cogeneration sector is innovating in key areas of the energy transition. Future-proof cogeneration systems aim to support renewable energy integration, maximise energy efficiency and ensure a more resilient and flexible energy system. This session will showcase the latest innovative approaches for cogeneration technologies and applications, with a focus on European industrial leadership and high decarbonisation ambition.

Panel Session 3: Reforming Europe’s Electricity Market - How to foster energy systems integration

  15:30 - 17:00 PM The Hotel

Electricity market design is a key component of Europe’s decarbonisation pathway, as electricity is becoming increasingly important in the context of the broader energy system. Growing shares of renewable energy in Europe’s power mix will be key to decarbonising the overall energy system. Meanwhile, the uptake of intermittent renewable sources and the electrification of the heating and transport sectors are associated with additional balancing, system adequacy and grid-reinforcement costs. To address these challenges, energy systems integration is emerging as a new approach to optimally plan and operate the energy grids and assets in synergy across energy carriers and different end-use sectors, accelerating decarbonisation, fostering resiliency and ensuring lower costs for consumers.
